This young family’s brief for a home that evokes an Italian farmhouse was an unusual one in Hong Kong, but it provided an inspiring foil for a design strategy rooted in materiality, scale and the relationship between the tradition and the contemporary. The 2,400-square-foot apartment's wraparound terrace and surrounding nature encourage the kind of al fresco living synonymous with the Italian countryside, while a palette of timber, ceramic, linen and marble evoke a similar sensibility. Inspired by the family's lifestyle and the home’s functional requirements, certain spaces were kept more traditional, with key contemporary pieces brought in for contrast.
